Meet Kelley! 👋 You may have spotted her as a vendor at our Halloween Festival, showing off the handmade jewelry from her Etsy business, KelleyKreates4U. Kelley has been running her business for three years, all while working at Vons for an incredible 19 years. She says her work has given her a real sense of independence, and she’s excited to keep growing through more pop up shops and promotion.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to honor the contributions of workers with disabilities and highlight the importance of inclusive employment. Kelley’s story is a powerful reminder that when people with disabilities are given the opportunity, they don’t just succeed, they build careers, businesses, and futures of their own.

Meet Francisco! 👋 For three years, Francisco has been a valued member of the team at Grounds Bakery Cafe, where he keeps the kitchen running smoothly by washing dishes and resets the lobby tables for each new guest. “This job makes me feel comfortable,” Francisco shares.
His manager, Shaylee, describes him as polite, always smiling, and someone who has never been late a single time. “He works hard each month,” she says, “and he’s a great addition to our team.”
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to honor the contributions of workers with disabilities and highlight the importance of inclusive employment. Over 75% of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities do not have a paid job in their community, and for many, it’s not a lack of interest or ability that holds them back. It’s a lack of opportunity. Through our Supported Employment Program, ICAN partners with local businesses like Grounds Bakery Cafe to change that, one meaningful job at a time.

Oh no! Where’s the Candy?! 🍬
We’re just a few short days away from the ICAN Halloween Festival, and our candy bowls are looking a little empty! This year’s festival is open to all people with disabilities of all ages, along with their families and caregivers, and we want every trick-or-treater to leave with a bag full of sweet treats.
Helping is easy. Simply pick up a few bags of candy at your local grocery store and drop them off at any of our three sites:
